Hangar 3 Brisbane Airport

Hangar 3 added a new scale to Brisbane Airport with a single span opening of 160m allowing three wide bodied commercial jet aircraft to be positioned side by side fully inside the building with the doors shut.

The hangar is a heavy maintenance facility set up to overhaul Airbus A330 and Boeing B767 aircraft. Two bays are equipped with motorised docking to fully enclose the aircraft under maintenance.

The third bay, the centre bay, is reserved for line maintenance and caters for all aircraft in the Qantas fleet. The main hangar space is supported by workshops, aircraft stores and engineering offices.

Qantas engaged AMA to produce the Functional Design Brief for the entire complex and to act as their agent, advisor and project manager during the construction period. AMA was also responsible for ensuring that the contractor's design complied with the brief.
