Hangar 96 A380 Aircraft Upgrade
Hangar 96 is an existing single span line maintenance hangar allowing two 747 300 and 400 aircraft to be positioned side by side fully inside the building with the doors shut. The hangar has been converted to house a Airbus A380 aircraft.
Modification works include raising and modifying part of the roof, installing additional foam deluge fire systems under the wing positions and pits and trenches in the floor to provide services connections to the underside of the fuselage. Modifications also included an increase opening width for the hangar doors to allow the A380 to enter.
The introduction of the Airbus A380 required the relocating of aircraft positions and the introduction of nose end main entry door access docking for both the A380 and B747 and similar but smaller wide bodied aircraft.
AMA provided architectural services from concept stage to completion including the docking design. The project was a great success and the A380 aircraft manoeuvred comfortably into the modified hangar and fitted accurately into the new docking.
